Longing for a taste of Spain?
As the dark cold nights descend, we’ve been longing for the return of summer. Beautiful glowing sunrises, gentle rolling waves, lazy lunches and al fresco dining. Imagine the aroma of seasonal produce and the fresh tastes of the healthy Mediterranean diet. If you are like us and haven’t yet ventured abroad since the lifting of restrictions then your tastebuds will truly be ready for a treat.
We are delighted to have teamed with the renowned Spanish brand, Conservas Ortiz. Preserving their products in the craft way, respecting traditional fishing methods. The result can be seen in the unmistakable texture of their products and their natural flavour which set them apart from the rest.
With bright interior-worthy branding and packaging gracing the shelves of many a European deli you may have come across this on your travels around the Spanish islands. We literally couldn’t wait to bring a little blast of the Spanish sunshine into our store and display the varied range we now have available.
We currently offer a carefully curated range of White Tuna, individually line caught with live bait or fly during the coastal fishing season. This age-old technique of selective fishing (which also avoids unwanted fish being discarded) respects the environment and protects marine reserves. Think white tuna prepared in an entirely artisanal way creating an exquisite flavour and delicate texture for the palate.
We are huge fans of simplicity and have enjoyed serving with our fresh free range eggs, tomatoes, a dash of our extra virgin olive oil and a generous slab of our locally made Sourdough loaf.
Our Ortiz traditional-style anchovies are produced using a craft process which differs from the method used to produce their anchovies in olive oil also available in store. The salt is removed from them with great care and filleted one by one with a knife, without removing the skin leaving a silver hue and conserving all the original intense flavour of the salting process. Marinated in extra virgin olive oil and a touch of parsley. They make an ideal appetizer due to their authentic flavour. Simply added to fresh tomatoes and mozzarella for a mouth watering quick and easy light bite.
Who needs a winter break when we can serve up a taste of the Canary islands here in sunny Saltburn by the Sea!
